AUGUSTUS

Harvested from the most significant American musical movements and rooted in truly good songwriting, the distinct Denver psych-rock quartet Augustus is taking Colorado by storm. Formed in late 2013, Augustus released their debut EP, “The Common Collapse”, to critical and commercial success and has been building a steady following due to their extensive gigging and captivating live shows.

In 2015, the group released their second EP, ‘Into Frames’ which was called “Colorado’s strongest psych-rock/mashup album of 2015.” by Colorado Music Buzz. It debuted on over 50 different college radio stations across the US and Canada. Their hit song ‘Return’ was ranked #9 on the Troubadour’s Road top 25 songs of 2015 and the album has been licensed for use by MTV, E! channel, and the Discovery channel.

The band kicked off 2016 with high profile festival appearances in Denver, Boulder, and Fort Collins, and has begun playing festivals in surrounding states. Released in October 2016, Augustus’ 3rd album, ‘The Mercury EP’ marks a turning point for the band. Marquee Magazine said “It’s the perfect example of the group’s ability to take their multi-faceted sound and put forth something that no longer sounds like a blending of styles, but rather a succinct, continuous sound of their own.” The album has again been licensed by major networks including AE, MTV, and the Discovery channel.

2017 saw the band morph into the 4 piece, full time touring, rock outfit that they were destined to be. They toured the Big Sky region, played SXSW in Austin, and capped off a 22 day, 19 city tour that brought them to major markets like Chicago, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and Boston. The band is currently tracking their 4th album.

RAINBOW FRESH

The band, based in Montclair, NJ, consists of Rich Seiner (vocals, guitar), Chip Moore (vocals, guitar, bass), Martin Purcell (vocals, bass, guitar), and John Purcell (drums). This lineup has been together for about three years. We play mostly in the NY/NJ/PA/CT/MA area, but we’ve traveled to gigs as far as Warsaw, Poland, and Florence, Italy. Our sound is hard to describe, but if you pictured Led Zeppelin’s little brother playing Steely Dan songs, threw in a little bit of Latin groove and Disco, you’d be close.

We’ve had some great shows, like opening up for Steve Miller at the NJPAC, and warming up for Chris Baron of Spin Doctors at Triumph Brewery in Princeton.  Another incredible highlight was playing with Les Paul (R.I.P.), and Bucky Pizzarelli at Club Iridium in Manhattan.  We have the the privelege of jamming regularly with great drummers such as Claude Coleman, Jr. (Ween, Amandla), and Adam Fischel (Debbie Gibson, Jersey Boys).

Along the way, we are proud to say that we’ve gained a lot of fans through our constant touring. We love to play, and we think it shows. We hope we see you at a gig soon!

DESOTO RUST

2014 marked the start of DeSoto Rust’s second decade bringing original Americana and roots rock music to the Delaware Valley and beyond. With four albums and countless shows in the rear view mirror, the band has crafted a unique high energy sound and has amassed a large catalogue of dynamic original material.

The band formed in late 2003, recorded its debut album over the following summer, and, without the benefit of a label or promotion engine, made its first showing on the Freeform American Roots (FAR) chart the following year.

Beyond its original material, DeSoto Rust also performs an extensive catalog of classic and contemporary country & western covers.

Some of the band’s accomplishments:

  • Well-received appearances during both the 2013 and 2010 SXSW Music Festivals in Austin, TX, including a shared billing with guitar legend Bill Kirchen.
  • Continuous airplay on broadcast and internet radio across the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand
  • Inclusion on several DJ’s “best of” lists for 2005, 2006 and 2009
  • Ten months on the Freeform American Roots (FAR) chart (as high as #11) in 2005 and 2006
  • Five months on the Euro-Americana chart (as high as #12) in 2005 and 2006
  • Nominations for song and CD of the year in 2005 by contributors to the FAR chart
  • Songs featured on RaceHour, a syndicated radio program dedicated to NASCAR
  • Shared stages with Bill Kirchen, David Allan Coe, Commander Cody, and Dickie Betts

Here’s what the critics have said about DeSoto Rust:

“[Highway Gothic is] a quantum leap ahead of where the roots rockers were at after two previous albums, and by all rights should signal their emergence into the top ranks of America’s rock ‘n’ roll bands.” – David McGee, The Bluegrass Special, January 2010

“With the unusually high quality of the material, confident identity and assured musicianship, DeSoto Rust now remind me more of Austin’s late, lamented The Highwaymen/Loose Diamonds than, as they did on their earlier albums, of The Band or CCR. – John Conquest, 3rd Coast Music, December 2009.

“It’s a rock solid collection of eleven originals and one well-placed cover that’s well produced, well played and well written.” – Reb Landers, The Alternate Root, November 2009.

“The band also have that seemingly effortless simpatico that comes from playing together forever.” – Jeremy Searle, Americana UK, November 28, 2009

“Everything your parents don’t want you to get into as a teenager – that’s what DeSoto Rust makes you feel. Everything you love about the night, about love and desire, sex and retribution. All those sides of us that the highway calls up.” – John Shelton Ivany, National News BureauJSI’s Top 21, November 2009

“The lost art of blue collar rock is alive and well here.” – Chris Spector, Midwest Record, October 28, 2009

“Great road trip music!” – Shayne Hollinger, Program Director, Mandatory FM, Stephenville, Texas, April 2009.

Mixxtape Chili Cook Off After Party

The mix tape may be a cultural relic lost on the iPod generation. But there’s one band in Bucks County that has not only embraced the tradition, but they’ve even modeled their music after it. Based in New Hope, the MIXXTAPE consciously creates music that resembles a good old fashioned compilation cassette. A typical show finds them effortlessly switching gears from genres as varied as rock to jazz and reggae to electronica. Their approach to creating music is a result of varying musical tastes of its members. Putting those differences together creates the MIXXTAPE’s singular sound. -Jack Firneno

“The Tim Nayfield Mix Tape had an impressive breadth of diversity, like their name implies. Songs ranged from Reggae (particularly Icarus), Punk, to Jazz. Some of their jams had very chill electronica vibes, and they even had some tribal elements in one of their songs. Far too often, when you’ve heard a band’s first song, you’ve essentially heard them all. I was very impressed by just how much diversity The Tim Nayfield Mix Tape had in each song and between songs. They always kept me excited and interested through out the night…In a scene where bands are often clamoring to showoff, The Tim Nayfield Mix Tape had a rare virtue, balance. There songs remained catchy, engaging, fun, and fully accessible… For once I find myself happy about receiving a mix tape, as long as it’s The Tim Nayfield Mix Tape”

St James & The Apostles W/ Righteous Jolly

St. James & The Apostles are a family trio from Philadelphia that plays heavy psychedelic soul. They recorded their first 2 LP’s, ’Baphomet’ (2012) & ’Via Dolorosa’ (2014), using a back-to-basics approach, After a considerable amount of touring, they hooked up with producer Joe Nicolo to craft their 3rd album, “White Devil”

A BIG YES AND A SMALL NO

After getting kidnapped in Colombia in 1997, Kevin Kendrick got back to the U.S. knowing one thing: Despite studying at the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy and being on a full ride for classical percussion, a symphonic career was not for him.  He soon joined the “prodigiously talented” (Entertainment Weekly) Fat Mama.  However, being “critically acclaimed but ill-fated” (Relix), this band expired in 2001.  After finally getting clean from heroin in 2005, Kevin moved to NYC. Surrounded by all that talent, he called the best musicians he knew; the boys from Fat Mama.  It’s no wonder Blurt Magazine said, “like great pop music from Burt Bacharach or Brian Wilson, the virtuosity is hidden, and designed to seem effortless.”  Virtuosity indeed.  Their first album was “the 14th most-added band to college radio playlists for July 2008”, and the newest one is coming out on Royal Potato Family April 20th, 2018.
