SONJA formed in 2014 when vocalist/guitarist Melissa Moore and drummer Grzesiek Czapla started to look for new musical avenues beyond their extreme black, death, grind and thrash backgrounds. Instead of entrusting an outsider with the vocalist position, Moore took it upon herself to learn how to sing. Along the way, the band added bassist Ben Brand, completing a lineup that is rife with musical diversity with influences stretching from classic and doom metal, all the way to Goth and post-punk.

Dancing Goats

Maria and Scott started Dancing Goats around 2003 exploring writing together and adapting songs we liked by other artists to fit our whims. Joined by a couple drummers, and Jay on additional Keyboards the band played bars, clubs and festivals throughout NJ, NY, NY, PA and DC through 2014. After Maria relocated to Pittsburgh, PA, Lisa came on board to sing along with some friends.  Maria moved back to the area and Lisa went to Law school in Rhode Island just as covid shut the whole thing down.

Maria and Scott started to meet up, write new material and finish up some stuff that was lying around. Missing playing, we met Kelly and Amanda who brought their voices and creative ideas to the party midway through 2023. Working as a trio we wrote and recorded new material while dusting off some of the existing stuff. Missing performing, we invited Jay back on Keys with Ken helping out when needed, Charlz and Gerry on Bass, added Craig on Drums & Rajiv on percussion. Here we are. Lets JAM!

Musically we draw from our extensive and expanding catalog of Groove based, Americanaish originals blended with our arrangements of covers by Kacey Musgraves, Lucinda Williams, Grateful Dead, Tedeski/Trucks, Aretha Franklin, Dua Lipa, Govn’t Mule, Maggie Rose, Marvin Gaye, Betty Wright, Beyoncé, Brandi Carlile, The Stones and whoever else we feel like taking for a spin to get you dancing.
