Having spent the better part of a decade lugging a drum kit in and out of basements, Legion halls, and tiny, smelly clubs, Brian Rothenbeck walked away from music for a while to focus on his future. Then, one fateful October, he received a call from some old bandmates who had started a new project and were in need of a merch guy for a trip to Gainesville. It was there he realized that a future without music was no future worth living.
For some time, Brian was involved only from the audience and behind the merch table, but soon the desire to return to the stage grew too great, and he began performing again. This time, however, he had moved to the front of the stage.
Not long after returning to the scene, he released 2013’s “Secret Monsters” with the help of some friends, and continued to play, travel, and hone his craft. Shortly thereafter, he released a split 7″ with Joe Galuppo on New Jersey’s Combover Records, and continued to write, travel, and hone his craft.
In the winter of 2015, he joined a Dungeons and Dragons campaign with Jay, Rory, and Matt – fellow musicians whom he had met throughout the years. This lead to the formation of The Adventuring Party, who would go on to record their first record together, “Basilisk” which is slated for a late 2017 release.
“Basilisk” is a perfectly distilled representation of Brian Rothenbeck and the Adventuring Party: honest, occasionally heartbreaking songs played by music lovers who can’t imagine a life without it in the true spirit of creation and community.
Also, beer and pizza and D&D.
