Devoted to peace and groove, Philadelphia Soul Society’s jam is inspired by the revolutionary sound of the Stax/Volt record label 1960 -1964, as well as the genius of the “Philadelphia Sound” of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff.
The crew on the debut record has appeared with Duran Duran, U2, Iggy Pop, Paul Simon, and Neeva to name a few. Special guest artists on the debut record include bassist Steve Garvey of The Buzzcocks and sax man Jake “The Snake” Nevius, along with the Uptown Horns. Their signature horn riffs can be heard on the turntables of America on chart toppers including Grammy-award winning James Brown’s “Living in America,” the B-52’s “Love Shack,” Buster Poindexter’s “Hot Hot Hot, “Joe Cocker’s “Unchain My Heart,” Tom Waits’ “Rain Dogs” LP, and Billy Joel’s “River of Dreams” LP, among numerous others. Hundreds of additional recordings and touring credits include names such as the Rolling Stones, B.B. King, Bruce Springsteen, Robert Plant, Aretha Franklin, REM and the B-52’s!
The self-titled debut album was recorded and produced by Scott Simon, founding member of synth-band Our Daughter’s Wedding, & Neighbors & Allies. Scott has also appeared with The Psychedelic Furs, U2, and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark . Joining Scott in post-production was John Ashton, founding member and principal songwriter for the Psychedelic Furs. John’s mastery of sound and dimension created a richness that encourages listeners to crank it up to eleven, or enjoy Philadelphia Soul Society in the warmth and privacy of their headphones.
The group is in rehearsal for upcoming shows, and recording & writing new material for their 2nd album with their new lineup. Their debut video, We Can Make It, is posted on this new website & their Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/philadelphiasoulsociety
